Underground plays the main role in the life of the city. Moscow underground includes a huge network of lines and change points in Moscow and in its suburbs. Large red letter M always stands for the entrance there.

Moscow metro consists of 12 lines, including ontheground metro. Men`s voice announces stations to the centre and woman`s vice versa. That was made for blind people, but it may help tourists either.
Moscow underground works from 05.20 am till 01.00.pm. On holidays, such as New Year, Christmas, Easter, metro could work, as a rule, till 02.00 or 02.30 pm.
2.5 minutes are an average interval between the trains (from one train departure to another ). At rush hours the interval increases up to 5 minutes.

You can also buy a card named Troika. It is an electronic wallet, which can be used as a ticket for underground, bus, trolleybus and even train. You need to pay 50 rubles for the card and to put any amount of the money on the Troika. Thus, the price of each trip will be the following: 28 rubles for the underground, 26 rubles for on-the-ground trip. There is also a good trick: if you use both on-the-ground and underground transport in 1 hour and a half the total price of the trip will be 44 rubles!

Interesting to know:
Moscow underground transports more people than any other in the world. It`s famous for its beautiful pieces of art on many stations made in the style of social realism.
The first line was opened on 15th of 1935. It runs from Sokolniki station to Park Kultury.
It has become a good traditional to give names to trains. By November 17th 2010 there were 7 such trains:

The people`s militia goes on Zamoskvorezkaya line. The train was given such name
in memory of veterans of World War II, the workers of Moscow underground.

Kurskaya rainbow goes on Sokolniki line. This train commemorates the memory of armored train, which participated in Kurskaya battle.
Red boom - 75 years goes on Sokolniki line. This train was made by Russian Railways to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the train Krasnaya strela.
Akvarel goes on Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya. It`s a gallery train and it has reproduction of Sergey Andriyak as well as replicas of paintings from Russian museum and Pusykin Museum of Fine Art of.
Reading Moscow goes on Kolcevaya line. It is decorated with quotes and pictures from greatest poets.
Retro train Sokolniki goes on Sokolniki line. It looks like the first train of Moscow Underground.
Poetry in underground goes on Philevskaya line. It acquaints passengers wit poets from different countries. The first poets were from Chile.
